Knud Holscher close up

This weekend I was so Lucky to meet one of the most productive and recognized designers in Denmark. You might not know the name Knud Holscher, but you sure know some of his many design icons – from the information boards on the metro stations in Copenhagen to Ifö toilets and Gense cutlery. Holscher Design is one of Scandinavia’s most recognized and award-winning design agencies with a long track record of developing products for international brands like Flos, Fiat and Philips. Knud Holscher, who is now 85 years old and still working, began his career working for Arne Jacobsen and was close friends with Poul Kjærholm. Later Holscher became the main designer for the Swedish manufacturer of bathroom sanitary Ifö and the collaboration has lasted for the past 40 years. The reason why I got to meet Knud Holcher was the launch of a new bathroom series for Ifö called Spira Art. A simple and beautiful design with focus on functionality and keeping bacterias away. “The innovative part of design is the important part” as Holscher explains. His idea was to make a series that is a detail in the bathroom and not a design in itself. The result is very nice, I believe! Take a look for your self and stay tuned for a visit to Knud Holscher amazing home in the next blog post.

Classic…

2016_Normann_Catalogue_Acc_35

Do you remember the Krenit bowl? I have quite a few of them in my home and love the iconic shape. What I didn’t know was that Herbert Krenchel in 1966 designed a natural extension of Krenit range of bowls – a jug. Normann Copenhagen has launched the jug in 2 sizes and 8 colors so there is a chance you will find a favorite. Have a great weeekend!

”I’ve always been engrossed, almost in love with objects and materials of a high quality. As a counterpoint to the soft and curved forms of the time, I gave the Krenit jug a razor sharp feel, which is expressed by its refined lines,” Herbert Krenchel

One designer worth keeping an eye on is Charlotte Høncke who since she gratuated from Aarhus School of Architecture in 2002 has been quite productive cooperating with brands like Softline, Frandsen Lighting, Bolia, Flexa, Bloomingville, BoConcept and by KlipKlap. Her style is feminine and light and the products are suitable for everyday life. Take a look at some of her latest designs.

GamFratesi – a design fusion

Sinarimage+26845mod1
What happens when you combine classic Danish craft tradition with an Italian conceptional approach? You get design studio GamFratesi founded in 2006 by danish architect Stine Gam and italian architect Enrico Fratesi. The studio is based in Copenhagen and you probably know their work for Danish Gubi and Fredericia Furniture. However, the designduo has been very productive and I love their style, use of marials, fabrics and colors. Take a look at my favorites.

Living space

Brinklercph 3

Living space is the perfect word for our dinning-, kitchen and tv room which are three rooms all brought together. The open kitchen and dinning room space is especially nice when we have company because you can prepare dinner while still being a part of the conversion. The renovation of these three rooms hasn’t been extensive. We removed an old built-in book case and had the wall rebuilt. Otherwise we just painted the walls and sanded the 60 year old oak floors. Because the room where we wanted to place our sofa had a pinewood floor, we decided to place a wall to wall carpet to reduce the diference between the very beautiful oak hiring bone floors and the pinewood.

Now we just need a little bit more on the walls, but I’m already pretty happy about the result. Here are some pics to give you an idea of what I’m talking about…

——————–

60 and still going strong

It’s always good news for a design addict like me when classic design icons like Arne Jacobsen’s series 7 gets a “make over” with respect for the original idea. From this February Fritz Hansen launches the ever classic and ever beautiful chair in a dark blue and a pale pink. Why? The icon has just turned 60.

The 60th Anniversary Edition of the Series 7 is inspired by the notion that ‘opposites attract’, a key theme in interior design right now. The 60th Anniversary Edition of the Series 7 chair is all about contrast – in materials and colours. While the deep dark blue and the pale pink may contrast each other, they also interact to create a calm and elegant look, attracting and complementing one another. To mark the 60th anniversary of this iconic chair, each chair has a golden plate mounted on the underside of the shell.

A good year

blog4

2015 is just around the corner and I’m feeling grateful for what 2014 gave me. It was the year Martin and I took a big step and bought a house. In the beginning of the new year there will be a lot of before and afters here on the blog. It was also the year I started this blog and believe me I’m glad I did so. It’s the perfect opportunity to share things I like and working full time in a totally different industy, this has become my little get away. 2014 also took me around the world – visiting Athens, London, Berlin and New York – all very exiting and inspirational.

This blog is my virtual pin board and as the year is coming to an end I like to repost some of my favorite images from the year. I wish you all a happy New Year!

——————–
